Veterinary Technicians provide the veterinarian with technical support for all aspects of animal care. Licensed veterinary technicians must complete intensive study in the fields of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, clinical techniques, pharmacology, anesthesiology, surgical and medical nursing, radiology, and clinical pathology training.
Each veterinary technician must maintain licensure
through national and/or state examinations.
The veterinary technician's primary responsibilities in a veterinary practice involve animal nursing, administering medications, assisting in surgery, taking radiographs, induction and monitoring of anesthesia, extensive laboratory duties, and client education.
